FIRST post for Post Consumer Productions

This is a test - My goal is to create a blog for the radio show (Some Assembly Required) as we head into our third year of syndication, and I'd like to get a little practice at blogging first, so I'm starting this one up as a trial blog. If its as easy as everyone says it is, perhaps I'll keep both going and make updates to this one on occasion as well. We'll see!
So, some background: Post Consumer Productions is a DIY arts organization run almost entirely by myself. The main project is Some Assembly Required - a weekly audio art show focused exclusively on works of audio appropriation - across genres. We play everything from experimental works on tape (and the modern digital equivalent) to experimental scratch tracks by hip hop DJs and those more identified with musique concret. Throw mashups and every other kind of cut-up into the mix and you've got a pretty diverse show - one I'm proud to have been working on since 1999. We started syndicating to college, community and public radio stations over two years ago now and are currently heard on close to two dozen stations. The number of syndicating stations varies quite a bit, from year to year, as DJs, Music Directors and Program Directors come and go (especially at college radio stations!), but at one point we were on well over fifty stations at once! We've got a pretty dedicated core of about 18 who have stuck with us consistently, and that feels very good.
In addition to Some Assembly Required, Post Consumer Productions also concerns itself with a small DIY record label (Recombinations) dedicated to the same kinds of sounds which Some Assembly Required is focused on: Tape Manipulations, Digital Deconstructions and Turntable Creations. So far we've put out a CD by a project called the Coherent Encoherence, one by Splatt, and two by my own project, titled Escape Mechanism. Recombinations artists are all sound collage artists. (Update: In 2007, Recombinations teamed up with Illegal Art to present a new online album by Lecture On Nothing, called "September 10." You can find out more information HERE).
Finally, the Festival of Appropriation is a recurring performance and visual art showcase, with a focus on - you guessed it - collage, assemblage and mixed media. We've done six of these over the past seven years, here in Minneapolis. (Update: In 2007, we worked with mnartists.org to present the Festival of Appropriation at the Soap Factory and the Walker Art Center, in Minneapolis. Find more info HERE).
Thanks for reading my new blog. I think it is possible to comment here, so drop me a line if you've been to any of our events or heard the radio program. It would be nice to hear from you.
